The week in .NET – 1/25/2016

Bertrand Le Roy

To read last week’s post, see The week in .NET – 1/19/2016.

On.NET

Last week, we chatted with Don Syme about the future of F#, and the community behind it. This week, our guests are Brian Flannery and Colin Sullivan from Apcera. We’re going to talk about NATS, a high performance messaging system with a great .NET client.

Package of the week: ASP.NET MVC Boilerplate

ASP.NET MVC Boilerplate is a great way to start a new modern and professional ASP.NET MVC application with all the bells and whistles that are expected today. A feature selection wizard lets you select which features you want on your web site from a huge list of options.

Tool of the week: SemanticMerge

Diffing and merging become a lot more difficult with complex refactorings. SemanticMerge improves on that experience by building diffs based on a real understanding of the code. Instead of comparing text, it compares the parsed structure of the code. It already supports .NET, and JavaScript support is planned.

User group of the week: New York ALT.NET Software Development Group

On Wednesday, January 27, Rachel Reese will be talking at the New York ALT.NET Software Development Group about how Jet does chaos testing on their microservices.

.NET Games

Global Game Jam 29-31 January 2016

We want to wish everyone participating in the Global Game Jam this coming weekend good luck and have fun! We’d love to play and show off some of the games created with .NET so send them our way once they’re finished. You can either tweet them to Stacey Haffner (@yecats131) or leave a comment on the gist with the link.

And this is it for this week!

Contribute to the week in .NET

As always, this weekly post couldn’t exist without community contributions, and I’d like to thank all those who sent links and tips. You can participate too. Did you write a great blog post, or just read one? Do you want everyone to know about an amazing new contribution or a useful library? We’d love to hear from you, and feature your contributions on future posts:

  • Send an email to beleroy at Microsoft,
  • comment on this gist
  • Leave us a pointer in the comments section below.

This week’s post (and future posts) also contains news I first read on ASP.NET’s community spotlight, on F# weekly, on ASP.NET Weekly, on Dirk Strauss’ The Daily Six Pack, and on Chris Alcock’s The Morning Brew.
