Announcing DSv2-Series and Fs-Series VMs in US Gov Virginia

We are happy to announce the general availability of DSv2-Series and Fs-Series (not to be confused with F-series) virtual machines in US Gov Virginia.

DSv2-series and Fs-series VMs can use Premium Storage, which provides high-performance, low-latency storage for Input/Output intensive workloads. These VMs use solid-state drives (SSDs) to host a virtual machine’s disks and also provide a local SSD disk cache.

For customers already utilizing DS-Series VMs in US Gov Virginia, DSv2 offers similar memory and disk, but offers more powerful CPUs which are based on 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon E5-2673 v3 (Haswell) processors and run about 35 percent faster

Below are the CPU, memory, and disk configuration options for DSv2 instances:

Size CPU cores Memory: GiB Local SSD: GiB Max data disks
Standard_DS1_v2 1 3.5 7 2
Standard_DS2_v2 2 7 14 4
Standard_DS3_v2 4 14 28 8
Standard_DS4_v2 8 28 56 16
Standard_DS5_v2 16 56 112 32
Standard_DS11_v2 2 14 28 4
Standard_DS12_v2 4 28 56 8
Standard_DS13_v2 8 56 112 16
Standard_DS14_v2 16 112 224 32
Standard_DS15_v2 20 140 280 40

Fs-Series VMs have similar CPU and memory configurations as F-Series but also have the ability to utilize SSDs.

Below are the CPU, memory, and disk configuration options for Fs instances:

Size CPU cores Memory: GiB Local SSD: GiB Max data disks
Standard_F1s 1 2 4 2
Standard_F2s 2 4 8 4
Standard_F4s 4 8 16 8
Standard_F8s 8 16 32 16
Standard_F16s 16 32 64 32

DSv2 and FS VM sizes will also be available in US Gov Arizona and US Gov Texas regions at launch. To see VM sizes available in each Azure Government region please visit our compute documentation page.
