Stuart: Shawn’s Terrific Universal App for photogRaph Tweaking

Stuart is a contrivedly acronymed Windows 10 photo editing app which I wrote during a recent Win2D app building exercise.  I’m posting it here because I’m pleased with how it turned out.  XAML + Win2D makes it really easy to do this sort of thing!

Where to get it

Features

  • Use a rich set of image effects to tweak your photos
  • Apply effects to the whole image or just selected parts of it
  • Feather selected regions for smooth transitions
  • Runs on Windows 10 PCs and phones

Stuart can make the colors more intense:

Or brighten the foreground rocks and trees without changing the sky:

Or we can go retro:

Or completely stylized:

Hi Shawn. STUART is a great app and I have been having a lot of fun using it. I would like a add a custom effect to STUART using my very patchy programming skills. To achieve this I have used the PixelShaderEffect in Win2D. The effect works in a separate project if I chain effects together, but trying to add the custom effect to “EffectMetadata.cs” gives an error at typeof(customEffect) because typeof is expecting a namespace or class. I have also tried to place the custom effect in a separate class derived from PixelShaderEffect, but PixelShaderEffect is sealed. Is there any way of adding custom effects to STUART? Thank you for creating a great app!
