Bringing Back the Search Window

In Service Pack 1 of Windows Vista, we removed the Search button from the Start Menu. While we discuss how to get there in this article, I’m finding that a number of people aren’t finding this. Windows-F brings up your default desktop search provider. (I still like having the full window when I’m digging around for files that aren’t indexed.)

    Hi Ganesh,

Right now, I think it’s still MSDN / TechNet only. I think the Windows Update download is coming up soon, though – maybe it’s already here? I’m not sure about the exact dates.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Should be hitting Windows Update also, where what you have to download is much, much smaller! 🙂

Cant we add the "search" back to the startmenu? (I need it..you people should have left an option added into the startmenu properties window to enable or disable it (default as disabled..since some companies blamed at it!)…

Curse you! First you remove the task pane and now my search button!!!! Why can’t Microsoft make these changes optionals? Why do you force everyone to have it the same way? Why?
