DynamicsPerf 2.0 IS HERE !!

I have opened the downloads for DynamicsPerf 2.0 Beta 1 today Jan. 6, 2016.  You can download it from here:

DynamicsPerf 2.0 for SQL2008R2 and Above.

The deployment guide for installation can be found here:

DynamicsPerf 2.0 Deployment Guide.aspx

Please post any issues you may find on the ISSUES tab of the download site.  I will be monitoring that site.

Known Issues

  • There are no SSRS reports for Beta 1.  A Reporting solution will be added at a later time.
  • Installing on SQL 2008R2 will produce an error on 2 views.  These views use the keyword LAG which is a SQL2012 and above supported function.  A good alternative would be to install DynamicsPerf 2.0 remotely on a SQL 2012 instance pulling data from your SQL 2008R2 instance,
  • The extended events will not install on SQL2008R2.  Extended events were new on SQL 2008 and not all of the TRACE events from SQL Profiler were available in Extended Events on this version,.  You can run the obsoletesqljobs.sql script in the install solution to get the old Trace jobs that use sp_trace back.
  • Aotexport in batch on Dynamics AX 2012 is broken.  I will post up a new xpo to the download site once we have the fix.

Thank you to everyone !!

    Hi Rod,
“Page not found” when I clicked on the link to the DynamicsPerf 2.0 Deployment Guide.aspx on this page.

Yes, as long as the database is SQL 2008R2 SP1 or above.  For everyone on 2008R2, I highly suggest installing DynamicsPerf on a SQL 2012 server and collect remotely so that you get all features of the toolset.

Can this work with legacy Solomon / Dynamics 7 SL ?   Yeah, im stuck supporting it.

Actually, it has been there since 1.15.  Look in a table called DynamicsPerf_Setup.

    🙂

Looking forward to testing the new version. One idea I'd like to add is a version (of DynamicsPerf) held somewhere. On the old versions – 1.16 – 1.2 etc it's very hard to tell the difference between which one is installed. Perhaps a table or stored procedure which clearly said "this is v2 of DynamicsPerf" etc?

Great question !! I want to get 2.0 released and then we'll work on the reports.  With the new schema changes, none of the reports will work.  The big request many have had is for Dashboard type reports. What we had before didn't fit that request very well.  I have some ideas, just not ready to divulge that yet.  The other part of this is everyone getting used to the new data and leaning what is there. With the addition of the history tables, there are many new potential reporting data points.

If you have ideas please add them to the feedback blog for everyone to read and comment on. I would like to hear more from everyone on what they'd like to see for reporting.

    Hi Rod,

What is plan to release reports for DP2.0? I am good with queries, but need something for client. Maybe old DP1.16 reports will to work or should I wait for new reports package.

    Thanks, Vladimir
