The Crown Prince and Princess, The Challenge, and The App

It was exciting to see the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark spending time with students from Five Dock Public School on Friday. What was more exciting was to see students discovering new Premier's Reading Challenge App on their Surface tablets with the Princess by their side.

The Premier's Reading Challenge, in its essence, "aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature". It's a wonderful program that brings reading to life while opening dreams and opportunity for so many students.

The Premier's Reading Challenge Preview App takes the challenge a step further and gives students the ability to search for books, to record reading, to keep tabs with their challenge as it progresses. It makes both reading and the challenge more fun. The app suits readers from grades k-9 and can be used when offline as well as online.

Any student or teacher that has access to Windows 8 devices, desktop, laptop, tablet has access to this free app. To find it simply click on this link;or search for 'Premier's Reading Challenge' in the App store straight from your device.

While the challenge has finished for 2013, why not get a head start on the 2014 competition by searching the app to create a wishlist for:

  • the school library or their teacher to purchase ready for 2014
  • the local library to order in or purchase in anticipation of borrowers
  • your Christmas list for family

Parents and grandparents could also use the app to search for gifts for their children. We know that all the books listed are of a high quality and will extend readers to improve literacy and reading skills.

Just like Prince Frederik and Princess Mary, we hope more schools in NSW spend time exploring the Windows Premier's Reading Challenge App and participating in the challenge in 2014.
