Experiencing Data Gaps for Live Metrics – 08/03 – Resolved

This is a retroactive notification for an incident in Application Insights. Upon reviewing the availability metrics for our Live Metrics feature, we noticed  a gap in data from 08/02 22:38 UTC to 08/02 22:49 UTC. We’ve confirmed that all systems are back to normal with no customer impact as of  08/02, 22:55 UTC. Our logs show the incident started on 08/02, 22:38 UTC and that during the 11 minutes that it took to resolve the issue, customers using the Live Metrics feature experienced data loss.
  • Root Cause: The failure was due to a scale related issue during one of our routine deployments.
  • Lessons Learned: We are working on improving our alerting mechanism to expedite the detection and resolution of such issues.
