Experiencing Data Gaps for Exception Data Type – 05/09 – Resolved

We’ve confirmed that all systems are back to normal with no customer impact as of 5/9, 21:55 UTC. Our logs show the incident started on 5/9, 17:15 UTC and during this time some customers experienced latency in Exception Data Type.
In our previous post we mentioned this to be a case of missing data however all the data has been backfilled after we mitigated the issue. Customers may not see any data gaps for Exception Data.

  • Root Cause: The failure was due to a few slow compute instances that fell behind on processing Exception Data.
  • Incident Timeline: 4 Hours & 40 minutes –  5/9, 17:15 UTC through 5/9, 21:55 UTC

We understand that customers rely on Application Insights as a critical service and apologize for any impact this incident caused.

We continue to investigate issues within Application Insights. Starting around 05/09/2016 17:15 UTC Exception data may be missing for some customers. Missing data is estimated to be around 5% . Root cause is not fully understood at this time. 
We are working on this issue but currently have no estimate for resolution.
