Experiencing Data Access Issue in Azure Portal for Metric Data Type – 11/02 – Resolved

We've confirmed that all systems are back to normal with no customer impact as of 11/03, 04:10 UTC.  Metadata regeneration has finished. Properties and Metrics metadata should be visible in the UI as expected.

  • Root Cause: The failure was due to a bug that was introduced in our aggregation service.

We understand that customers rely on Application Insights as a critical service and apologize for any impact this incident caused.

Root cause has been isolated to a bug which was preventing Properties and Metrics metadata to get generated correctly. To address this issue we have fixed a bug with our service. We have verified that the data is getting generated correctly now. However, it will take nearly 10 hours for metadata to get regenerated. Until the metadata finishes regenerating some customers may continue to experience unavailability of Properties and Metrics metadata.

We will post update to this blog as and when all the metadata becomes available.

We are aware of issues within Application Insights and are actively investigating. Some customers may experience Data Access Issue in Azure Portal. Customers may not be able to see Properties and Metrics in Metrics Explorer, Metrics List, Filter Blade and Group by drop down box in the UI for Application Insight resources created after Aug 17th, 2015.
We've identified a bug which is causing it. We expect the bug fix to be deployed in next few hours to take care of this issue.
