Skype for Windows Phone (Beta) Available Now

Starting today, download the beta version directly from your Windows Phone or at the Marketplace from your computer to test drive Skype for Windows Phone. The gold version of the app will be available in April. More info here.

Note: You cannot find the beta app directly from the marketplace. But you have a few easy options below.

1) You can download the beta version of the Skype for Windows Phone app for free**** by clicking here directly from your Windows Phone, or 2) simply scanning the QR code below. You will need to have a smartphone running Windows Phone 7.5. You can check what version of Windows Phone your phone is running at Settings > About.

The url for the app is zune://navigate/?appid=c3f8e570-68b3-4d6a-bdbb-c0a3f4360a51

You can get a free QR code reader from marketplace or mobile operator, e.g. AT&T’s Coder Scanner. You can use the code scanner inside Bing (Vision with an eye icon at the bottom of the Bing search screen). This built-in feature allows you to scan barcodes, QR codes, Microsoft Tags, books, CDs and DVDs.

3) You can use Bing to search on “Skype for Windows Phone blogs.skype.com/en/2012”. Click on the first item from the search results, which is the blog post at https://blogs.skype.com/en/2012/02/skype_brings_voice_and_video_c.html
Navigate to the third paragraph below the youtube video, locate and tap on the word here at “by clicking here ”. See highlighted text above.

4) Download the app at the Marketplace from your computer. Follow the instructions and go from there. (I didn’t use this option but it should work.)
