Released: Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Compiler Update for the Windows SDK 7.1

An update to the Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 4 (Windows SDK 7.1) is now available from the Microsoft Download Center. This update addresses the issue where Visual C++ Compilers and libraries that are installed with the Windows SDK are removed when Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 is installed.

Please follow this link to download and install the update.

For more information about this issue, please see the related article.

  1. Zarat says:

Does the order of installation matter? (ie. should I install the sdk update first, or the service pack?)

  2. SC says:

The install immediately crashes on my machine after accepting the license agreement and refuses to run again after that.

Initial crash had an error code 0xc0000094 (divide by zero?) then subsequent attempts resulted in the following install log:

  3. @Zarat – you can install either SP1 or the SDK update first.

@SC – Sorry to hear you're having trouble installing the update.  I've asked our test team to take a look at this issue.

  4. Hi SC,

I work for the WinSDK test team.  From your log, it appears that your internet connection was lost.  Please e-mail me directly at chrishu at microsoft . com so I can work with you to solve this problem.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  5. lto says:

what about for those of us who have installed VS2010 sp1 without windows SDK 7.1. We can no longer update to windows SDK 7.1?

  6. @Ito – You can install Windows SDK 7.1 after installing VS 2010 SP1.  However you'll need to make sure the compiler feature isn't selected when you install the SDK (you can install this update afterwards to add the compilers).  See the readme for this update for more information:  go.microsoft.com/fwlink

    hi jleaf,

    Thanks for the great tips!

hi jleaf, thanks for the great tips!

  9. @jleaf

    Hi,

Applying this update to standalone SDK causes the following error here trying to compile even trivial programs. I have already mentioned this on vcblog  :-

'C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 10.0VCINCLUDEintrin.h(26) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'ammintrin.h': No such file or directory'

Ive investigated a little and it appears update supplies revised intrin.h that tries to reference the ammintrin.h (AMD specific intrinsics) quoted and of course is missing hence the message. So my conclusion is more packaging trouble if its going to be used to update standalone SDK.

If you install as per  recommended order above it works fine.

I posted full details here rather than repeating it here verbatim :-

    connect.microsoft.com/…/windows-update-kb2455033-breaks-build-with-missing-ammintrin-h

This connect item is in some ways misdescribed. KB2519277 (This update) unblocks problem with windows update KB2455033 but then introduces the C1083 as a side effect.

Hope this helps and not too confusing.

  10. Worked for me (setenv.cmd reports no problem).  Installation sequence: .NET 4.0 redistributable + windows SDK 7.1 + VS10 express C# with SQL + VS10 express C++ (with some 'compatibility mode' issues) + windows update (failing at KB 2455033) + VS10 SP1 (fixed KB 2455033 issue) + KB 2519277 (= here, fixes VS10 SP1 issue).

Nit: On the SDK 7.1 download page the "release notes" link points to go.microsoft.com/fwlink  That results in ReleaseNotes_Win7_1RTMSDK.Htm with an incorrect workaround 1 for known issue 6.1.5 (hhc.exe path).  The release notes *in* the SDK with path …7.1.ReleaseNotes.Htm contain no issue 6.1.5 (the last 6.1.x item is 6.1.4).   Please fix LinkID=186826, I tried workaround 1 for hhc.exe breaking setenv.cmd, and later I saw that I have no hhc.exe… 😉

  11. @DerekUK – thanks for the report.  I'm following up on the Connect report with the team who released KB2455033.
