Windows 10 Driver Distribution via Windows Hardware Dev Center

When creating a shipping label for Windows Update using the Windows Hardware Dev Center, the versions of Windows 10 that you can select are based on the versions that were submitted with your HCK/HLK package or attestation submission selections. The Windows 10 version you select for publishing will be set as the minimum version of Windows 10 for which the driver will be distributed.

In addition to the minimum version, the driver will also be distributed to all future versions of Windows 10. This does not, however, constitute an automatic extension of compatibility. To achieve compatibility for future versions of Windows 10, a new submission will be required for each version.

Drivers will not be automatically distributed to versions of Windows 10 released before the selected minimum version. If distribution to an earlier version of Windows 10 is desired, that version should be selected as the minimum version.

Example scenarios are outlined below:

  • If the selected minimum version is Windows 10, version 1511
    • Drivers will NOT be distributed to Windows 10, version 1507
    • Drivers will be distributed to Windows 10, version 1511
    • Drivers will be distributed to Windows 10, version 1607
    • Drivers will be distributed to all future versions of Windows
  • If the selected minimum version is Windows 10, version 1607
    • Drivers will NOT be distributed to Windows 10, version 1507
    • Drivers will NOT be distributed to Windows 10, version 1511
    • Drivers will be distributed to Windows 10, version 1607
    • Drivers will be distributed to all future versions of Windows

If you would like to target a single version of Windows 10, where drivers are not made available to future versions, contact DDCHelp@Microsoft.com for assistance.
