Today, Microsoft takes another step as part of our commitment to helping enterprises harness the power of Windows 8.1 through intelligent systems. We first announced in July a new Volume Licensing program that allows enterprises to access specific versions of Windows Embedded 8 directly from Microsoft. Today, we extend that program to versions of Windows Embedded 8.1.

Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry, which became generally available just a few weeks ago, brings the latest Windows technologies to our OEM partners building industry devices. Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry is a full version of Windows 8.1 plus additional technologies, like gesture filters and write filters, needed to meet the line-of-business needs of industry devices. Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry is Microsoft’s recommended solution for devices such as point-of-sale systems, industry tablets, kiosks and ATMs. Between our OEM partners, which can provide customers with new devices, and Volume Licensing, which allows customers to upgrade existing devices, our customers have the ability to standardize their devices on the latest Windows technologies.

We are very excited about Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry and the fact that our customers and partners can use our latest technologies to realize the benefits of intelligent systems. Read more about volume licensing here; information about Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry is here.
