Project Management Lingo … funny but true

I have been reading the book Adrenaline Junkies and Template Zombies: Understanding Patterns of Project Behaviour, which comes highly recommended!

What I really enjoyed is the “Project-Speak” section. Here are a few of my favourites:

When this is said … This is actually meant …
The schedule is aggressive We are toast
We will makeup the slippage in the next few iterations We are still toast
Executive summary Cartoon version
High-Level Not for real
Work continues We are clueless
Time will tell We are clueless and we admit it
Code complete Not tested
The code has become unmaintainable I would have designed it differently
Best practice Invented by people who do not work here and therefore infinitely superior to anything we do

The book has loads more project speak terms and many invaluable project pattern descriptions. Also the section on “Undivided Attention” is a must read for anyone trying to juggle more than two projects and is a section that appears relevant to Rangers and which I am therefore scanning and submitting to the Ruck team.

I am still rolling on the flow laughing …
