Project Management Lingo … funny but true
I have been reading the book Adrenaline Junkies and Template Zombies: Understanding Patterns of Project Behaviour, which comes highly recommended!
What I really enjoyed is the “Project-Speak” section. Here are a few of my favourites:
When this is said … | This is actually meant … |
The schedule is aggressive | We are toast |
We will makeup the slippage in the next few iterations | We are still toast |
Executive summary | Cartoon version |
High-Level | Not for real |
Work continues | We are clueless |
Time will tell | We are clueless and we admit it |
Code complete | Not tested |
The code has become unmaintainable | I would have designed it differently |
Best practice | Invented by people who do not work here and therefore infinitely superior to anything we do |
The book has loads more project speak terms and many invaluable project pattern descriptions. Also the section on “Undivided Attention” is a must read for anyone trying to juggle more than two projects and is a section that appears relevant to Rangers and which I am therefore scanning and submitting to the Ruck team.
I am still rolling on the flow laughing …
