I have been reading the book Adrenaline Junkies and Template Zombies: Understanding Patterns of Project Behaviour, which comes highly recommended!
What I really enjoyed is the “Project-Speak” section. Here are a few of my favourites:
|When this is said …||This is actually meant …|
|The schedule is aggressive||We are toast|
|We will makeup the slippage in the next few iterations||We are still toast|
|Executive summary||Cartoon version|
|High-Level||Not for real|
|Work continues||We are clueless|
|Time will tell||We are clueless and we admit it|
|Code complete||Not tested|
|The code has become unmaintainable||I would have designed it differently|
|Best practice||Invented by people who do not work here and therefore infinitely superior to anything we do|
The book has loads more project speak terms and many invaluable project pattern descriptions. Also the section on “Undivided Attention” is a must read for anyone trying to juggle more than two projects and is a section that appears relevant to Rangers and which I am therefore scanning and submitting to the Ruck team.
I am still rolling on the flow laughing …
