Rangers Awareness Sessions – What would be interesting 2U?

We have just delivered some Rangers awareness sessions at TechReady (Microsoft internal event) and as part of our transparent process :) we would like to know whether there are any sessions that you would like us to repackage and redeliver as a community session.

Here is the list of TR sessions which we can re-deliver. The original abstract and objectives are included in italic:

  1. Rangers Lab Management GuideThe Rangers Lab Management Guide provides practical and scenario-based guidance, backed by custom VM Template automation for reference environments. Join the Visual Studio ALM Rangers for a discussion on the deliverables, which are a combination of scenario based guidance, hands-on-labs, virtual machine factory templates and the quick reference poster visualizations and in-the-field feedback from the engineers involved. If you are interested in Lab Management and interested in the Visual Studio ALM Rangers thoughts and solutions, then this is the session to attend.

  2. Rangers Build Customization GuideThe Build Customization Guide provides practical and scenario-based guidance for the customization and deployment of TFS Team Build-based build processes. . Join the Visual Studio ALM Rangers for a discussion on the deliverables, which are a combination of scenario based guidance, hands-on-labs, virtual machine factory templates and the quick reference poster visualizations and in-the-field feedback from the engineers involved. If you are interested in TFS Team Build and interested in the Visual Studio ALM Rangers thoughts and solutions, then this is the session to attend.
    Objectives: 1. Understand what features are included 2. Learn about lessons learnt in the field, i.e. Mega Builds 3. See a couple of examples and demos

Rangers Requirements Management – Lessons LearntSome of the most complex and challenging teams are managed by Visual Studio ALM Rangers where they are delivering out-of-band solutions and guidance for Visual Studio. During this talk you will learn how to manage the complexity and overcome challenges of virtual, distributed, multi-cultural and part-time teams. Through interactive discussions and frequent demonstration you will learn how to apply the best of breed agile practices to your projects. This talk will demonstrate the current use of ALM tooling to create an environment needed for transparency, collaboration and delivering solutions.
    Objectives: 1. Learn how to overcome the challenges of distributed agile team management from the Visual Studio ALM Rangers. 2. Learn the application of Agile best practices to manage the most challenging of team configurations. 3. Learn how the Visual Studio ALM Rangers use Microsoft ALM tooling to meet these challenges head on.
  4. Making VS ALM Rangers Branching Guide 2010 RealBased on the latest VS ALM Rangers Branching Guide 2010, this session will help your organization develop a successful strategy for Source Code Management (SCM), branching, and merging. With a combination of presentations, whiteboard discussions, and scenario-based demos, learn how to apply the VS ALM Rangers Branching Guidance to the real world. Explore the new Visual Studio 2010 and Team Foundation Server (TFS) features for branching and merging, including branch visualization, changeset tracking, and drag-n-drop merging. Learn best practices for structuring code to support the needs of development teams of varying complexity. Discuss a variety of approaches for releasing code including: supporting multiple released versions, including sustained engineering, hotfix, QFE, and Service Pack support.
    Objectives: 1. Learn how to develop and maintain a successful strategy for branching, merging and Source Code Management (SCM). 2. In addition we are considering running 30min Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) “lessons learnt” collaboration sessions every second week. Thoughts on the value of this one?
