Rangers Solutions on Codeplex … are we making a dent with the pro-active TFS, Visual Studio, Virtualization and ALM guidance?
We shipped a number of new Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010 and Visual Studio (VS) 2010 guidance solutions to Codeplex in January, with three more coming over the next couple of months. The question that we ask ourselves is the actual adoption of the guidance in a time where BETA-2 is slowly evaporating and the Release Candidate (RC) is introducing great excitement. The objective my the Rangers was to ship guidance before the technology is released, allowing the communities to be pro-active and prepared for the technology wave, whereby the current available guidance is included in the following solutions, all of which are on Codeplex:
Visual Studio 2010 Quick Reference Guidance … quick reference guides and posters.
Visual Studio 2010 and Team Foundation Server 2010 Virtualization Guidance … includes the Rangers VM Factory.

Let’s look at the download trends for the past 4 weeks:
After an exciting jump after the initial launch, we are seeing a flatting of the download rates. Why? Are we too early? … this brings me to the questions I have and for which I would appreciate feedback from the community:
- Is the early guidance used?
- Is it adding value?
- Which guidance is important?
- What, if anything, is missing?
- If it is valuable, why are the downloads trends not showing it … we expect exponential, not sequential patterns :)
