We asked, we are listening and we are acting … XPS vs PDF vs RAW documentation formats

In the recent wave of Rangers solutions we have standardised our documentation type to XPS (XML Paper Specification), which has resulted in “candid feedback” asking for other formats such as PDF (Portable Document Format) and Office 2007. Well, we are busy digesting a quick poll that we raised in response to the feedback and are experimenting with the style that will meet the majority, if not all, requests.

So what is the new ‘proposed’ format?

  1. We are minimising the number of download pages, in the case of the Visual Studio 2010 and Team Foundation Server 2010 VM Factory project we have two, one for general guidance and the other for factory specific guidance.

  2. The default documentation format is still XPS (XML Paper Specification).

  3. However, we have added a complete package for the various artefacts, which consists of XPS, PDF and the Office 2007 formats used as part of the project.

Is this better? Please continue to give us candid feedback, so that we can refine and get to a point where we have smiling faces all around :)
