VSTS Rangers Projects – VSTS 2010 101 Guidance BETA-2

Good news, Steven has given us the thumbs up for BETA-2, after already giving us the same positive feedback for BETA-1 at the beginning September. He thought we could not improve or impress him any further … as always, the VSTS Rangers proved him wrong :) Then again, knowing Steven very well, we know that he knew that we would pour all our energy, passion and knowledge into shipping an even better product … he is a great motivator and team player! Thanks Steven for all your help and encouragement!

This triggers a broader and final review of the latest bits and puts on a solid road to publishing the content on Codeplex during October as planned. Keep an eye on our blog for the final release notice.

Project outline …

“Can you tell me about TFS and VSTS in 5 minutes?” … yes we can, with the VSTS 2010 101 Guidance material.

The VSTS 2010 101 Guidance consists of public compact guidance for Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010 and Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) 2010, addressing the core problem of teams in the field being unaware of basic and new TFS|VSTS capabilities, ill-equipped to investigate or no time to research the technology. The content consists of an overview document and poster that allows you to focus on the correct environment, for example testing, as well as crisp guidance sheets and quick reference posters for all environments, which you can take with you to your next 5-min coffee break.

The guidance was created by the VSTS Rangers with support from Microsoft software engineers, Microsoft Most Valued Professionals (MVPs) and technical specialists from technology communities around the globe, giving you a real-world view from the field, where the technology has been tested and used.

The deliverables are currently packaged as one BETA-2 package, but will be separated into three separate download packages as follows:

  • VSTS 2010 101 Guidance – Overview
    • An overview of the guidance and focus areas, contained in one index table and overview quick reference poster.
  • VSTS 2010 101 Guidance – Basic Guidance
    • A collection of basic guidance sheets, focusing on the “what” are the key features and “why” to consider them.
  • VSTS 2010 101 Guidance – Supporting Guidance
    • A set of documents and quick reference posters, supporting the basic guidance sheets.
