VSTS Rangers Projects – TFS Migration Tools initiative feedback … thereafter 2 weeks of possible radio silence

We are ramping up for TechReady9, as mentioned in VSTS Rangers Projects – VSTS 2010 ‘101’ Guidance is evolving, and have just frozen and uploaded the early bit for the TFS Migration Tools as well. We have a number of green robots (traffic lights on this side of the planet) and one red robot, in other words we have included most of what we planned in the TechReady9 package and are confident that we will have a complete package by the time we ship the final VSTS Rangers product, as part of the TFS Migration Tools release.

… as can be seen, we are releasing a huge portion of our VSTS Rangers deliverables as “early bits” at TechReady. The dogfooding column shows which other technologies we are dogfooding as part of the project, primarily TFS 2010 BETA-1, VSTS 2010 BETA-1 and the Architecture modelling tools as eludedimage to in past blog posts such as VSTS Rangers Projects – Using VSTS 2010 BETA-1 as part of the TFS Migration tools initiative.

At this stage we are going into a possible period of radio silence as the core team is focusing on TechReady, while the other feature teams of the VSTS Rangers are processing comments and gearing up for the final sprint in August. Bill’s team, together with Grant, are still focused on the internal dogfooding, for which Brian has shared some amazing statistics in A dogfooding milestone and July ‘09 DevDiv Dogfood Statistics.

We cannot imagine any bigger, more complex TFS environment that the one we are dogfooding. While we are all feeling like running on a high speed treadmill, that occasionally has slippery patches, the internal dogfooding will contribute towards a far more robust, scalable and reliable solution.
