VSTS Rangers Projects – Project Announcement: TFS2TFS Team Project Copy

This is the third of the three projects for which I am currently the dev lead and which are on the verge of commencing as VSTS Rangers Projects. Included in this post is the motivation, the vision and the objective of the project, whereby I am more than happy to discuss more details with you if needed. For the sake of text re-use, all text indicated in italic has been copy-pasted from the project announcement emails from Bijan:

History and motivation

The current version of TFS2TFS Team Project copy on Codeplex was originally created by Rangers. It was built on top of the TFS migration toolkit which was created as a power tool by product group. We have received lots of feedback from our customers and partners which clearly show that migrating TFS content using our tools is extremely difficult.

Vision

The goal of this project is to deliver the best possible Team Project copy tool within technological limits.

Abstract

The goal of this Ranger project is to improve the quality of the next generation Team Project copy tool by owning the public facing part of this product development effort. Rangers deliver the public facing side of the new TFS2TFS Team Project copy tool while the product team will work to improve the quality, robustness and performance of the migration toolkit and the TFS2TFS tool. Rangers will focus on their area of expertise by owning the delivery to a couple of pilot customers. Additionally they deliver customer requirements and scenarios, SDK samples and SDK documentation. All other details will be defined by the project team.

The team, made up of VSTS Core and Extended Rangers, Team System MVPs who are not yet Rangers and for the first time Community leads from SA Architect, working on this project is phenomenal and we are looking forward to keep you informed with the progressed of this project in the future.
