Team Foundation Server 2010 Installation … Take 1: A new era begins q;-)

Blue Man Sitting on a Music Note and Playing a Guitar Clipart IllustrationI have the fortune of being involved with the testing of the latest bits for the Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010 installations, getting an opportunity to comment on the process and documenting issues that I have collated during my testing of the various scenarios. The next song dedicated to TFS installation and configuration will definitely be a much happier one :)

At this stage I have successfully tested the standalone TFS ATDT server on both 32-bit and 64-bit Server 2008 operating systems and although I raised a few queries, I am all smiles q;-) My next steps are to formally record my findings and queries, after which I will test the workgroup mode scenario and, time permitting, will look at the TFS AT and TFS DT dual server scenario.

TFS-2010-32Bit TFS-2010-64Bit … spot the slight difference between the two screen dumps … especially you Willie (SA Developer – Kwa-Zulu-Natal) … you should spot an answer to one of your questions.

The experience is a happy one and you can find an excellent video by Ed Holloway of the changes on channel 9 at https://channel9.msdn.com/posts/VisualStudio/Team-Foundation-Server-2010-Setup-and-Administration/ to get a visual tour through the process. I have recently received a number of questions from the communities around the installation and the TFS 2010 features and support going forward and I hope that I will be able to address all of them in posts like these … as the installation topic is already on Channel 9, I assume the NDA blankets are lifted and we can discuss more openly.

In a nutshell, the installation experience is smoother and the configuration after installation support, plus the administration tool and wizards is adding immense value to the man-in-the-trenches. The complex and confusing installation and especially configuration experience is a thing in the past, or at least is busy riding off into the distance.
