Error code 1603 for this component means "Fatal error during installation" while installing .Net framework 3.0

While trying to install .Net framework 3.0, you will find the following error in the error log dd_dotnetfx3error.txt

[11/18/09,14:17:00] WIC Installer: [2] Setup Failed on component WIC Installer [11/18/09,14:17:09] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates WIC Installer is not installed.

And you will see the following error in the log log dd_dotnetfx3install.txt

0.110: Failed To Enable SE_BACKUP_PRIVILEGE

0.130: You do not have permission to update Windows Server 2003.

Please contact your system administrator.

Resolution :

Click on Start-Administrative tools-Local security policy. Under security settings , choose Local policies - > User Rights assignment.

Add administrators account and the username with which you are logged in to the “Backup files and directories” Policy

Restart the computer

Now try the installation of .Net framework 3.0 and it will be successful
