One of the things that my team (VS Data) does is serve as a focal point around data thinking in the developer division. In addition to owning several features (database designer, query designer, parts of server explorer) and a product (Visual FoxPro) we work with other teams to put together a holistic story around data for VS.

Steve Lasker is an old friend and a program manager on the VB Data team. They handle the design time story for data. He's put together an excellent entry that describes the changes that have happened to those features between beta one and beta two - and the reasons why.
