VHD Test Drive – Vista Images

The VHD Test Drive team has posted new images for download on Microsoft Connect. I guess many of you have been waiting for this. We just finished uploading the first 2 Vista images. Yeah, that’s right, Vista. The first image is our Vista base image. Vista Enterprise. The second image – also Vista based – is Vista Enterprise plus VSTS. How’s that?

Currently we provide a total of 6 different images that can be enhanced by ISV partners with own applications and made available for free for test and evaluation purposes.

Here’s the complete list of images:

  1. Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition (BASE)
  2. (BASE) + SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
  3. (BASE) + Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006 Standard Edition
  4. (BASE) + Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 + Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 Standard Edition
  5. (BASE) + Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition + Microsoft Exchange Server 2007
  6. (BASE) + Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007 Beta 2
  7. VISTA ENTERPRISE
  8. VISTA ENTERPRISE + Visual Studio Team Suite (VSTS)

While images on Microsoft Connect are meant for ISV partners, a similar set of VHD images is available for MSDN and TechNet subscribers for testing.

  2. SaiGanesh says:

It looks similar to Virtual Appliances.

  3. VolkerW says:

It is a very similar concept based on Windows as the only guest operating system for all VHD Test Drive images.

We are an ISV and are porting our solution from Linux to Windows and would like to take advantage of this 30 day test drive model.  But clicking thru all the MS websites yields very little info.

Any guidance or pointers to up to date info?
