Announcing Code Search on Team Foundation Server 2017

Jimson Chalissery [MSFT]

Code Search is the most downloaded Team Services extension in the Marketplace! And it is now available on Team Foundation Server 2017!

Code Search provides fast, flexible, and accurate search across your code in TFS. As your code base expands and is divided across multiple projects and repositories, finding what you need becomes increasingly difficult. To maximize cross-team collaboration and code sharing, Code Search can quickly and efficiently locate relevant information across all your projects in a collection.

Read more about the capabilities of Code Search here.

Understand the hardware requirements and software dependencies for Code Search on Team Foundation Server 2017 here.

  1. You can configure Code Search as part of your production upgrade via the TFS Server Configuration wizard:

  1. Or you can complete your production upgrade first and subsequently configure Code Search through the dedicated Search Configuration Wizard:

  1. To try out Code Search, you can use a pre-production TFS instance and carry out a pre-production upgrade. In this case, configure Code Search after the pre-production upgrade is complete. See step 2 above.

  2. You can even configure Code Search on a separate server dedicated for Search. In fact we recommend this approach if you have more than 250 users or if average CPU utilization on your TFS server is higher than 50%.
