Virtual Earth 6.0 Auto-Upgrade Date Now Locked - September 10, 2008

image

Per my previous posts on the topic of the Virtual Earth auto-grade from v 6.0 to 6.1 and the deprecation plans for v 3, 4 and 5 we've officially locked down a date to begin upgrading users on 6.0 to 6.1. On September 10, 2008, if you're running on v 6.0 of the Virtual Earth AJAX map control and you've been using all of the documented functions per the SDK, your version of the control will be automatically upgraded to begin using the files associated with v 6.1. You don't need to change your link to 6.1. You don't need to do anything - you'll just get the latest and greatest bits. Although, it would be wise to test your application for anything you might've done in an, um, "unique manner;" or, we in case we missed something in the test passes - that never happens! I wrote a post a while back titled "Virtual Earth Application Upgrade Testing with Fiddler". This is a great and very simple way to test your applications, so use it. Deprecation plans for v 3, 4 and 5 remain the same. You have 5 days left before the auto-upgrade.
