Windows Azure Access Control Service Sample Demonstrates Support for OAuth 2.0, Windows Identity Foundation

appfabric-logoACS (Azure Access Control Service) that is part of Windows Azure AppFabric recently added support for the OAuth 2.0 protocol. OAuth is an open protocol that is being developed by members of the identity community to to allow third party applications access to data without providing passwords.

A sample application has been posted on Microsoft Connect that shows an end-to-end scenario using Windows Identity Foundation (WIF) and ACS. Try it out here,

The announcement of the sample was made on the Claims Based Identity Blog at Protecting and consuming REST based resources with ACS, WIF, and the OAuth 2.0 protocol.

About Access Control Service

The Windows Azure AppFabric Access Control Service (ACS) makes it easy to authenticate and authorize users of your web sites and services. ACS integrates with popular web and enterprise identity providers, is compatible with most popular programming and runtime environments, and supports many protocols including: OAuth, OpenID, WS-Federation, and WS-Trust.

About Windows Azure AppFabric

Windows Azure AppFabric provides a comprehensive cloud middleware platform for developing, deploying and managing applications on the Windows Azure Platform. It delivers additional developer productivity adding in higher-level Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) capabilities on top of the familiar Windows Azure application model.

Get started by downloading An Introduction to Windows Azure AppFabric for Developers (.doc) to learn how it provides common building blocks required by .NET applications when extending their functionality to the cloud.

About Windows Identity Foundation

Windows Identity Foundation enables .NET developers to externalize identity logic from their application, improving developer productivity, enhancing application security, and enabling interoperability.  Enjoy greater productivity, applying the same tools and programming model to build on-premises software as well as cloud services.  Create more secure applications by reducing custom implementations and using a single simplified identity model based on claims.  Enjoy greater flexibility in application deployment through interoperability based on industry standard protocols, allowing applications and identity infrastructure services to communicate via claims.

Get started with Windows Identity Foundation with the Identity Developer Kit and at the Identity Training Course on the Channel 9 Learning Center.
