Service Pack 1 for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 Reaches Beta

Tami Reller, corporate vice president and chief financial officer for the Windows business, detailed the tremendous partner opportunity with Windows 7 at Worldwide Partner Conference. She announced the beta release of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, which enhance the deployment and management of virtualized desktop infrastructure.

The Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta is a joint release for both Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.  SP1 Beta for Windows Server 2008 R2 includes previously released updates and delivers a number of powerful new features for virtualization and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI): Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX.

In order to download and install the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta you must currently have a Release to Manufacturing (RTM) version of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 already installed.

Microsoft Intune

Reller also emphasized the role of the cloud in Windows and announced the second public beta of Windows Intune, a new offering that uses the best of both Windows cloud services and Windows 7 to manage and help secure PCs.

Windows Intune is the newest addition to Microsoft’s cloud family where -- we’re using our experience with cloud services and IT infrastructure solutions like Windows Update to help customers and partners manage their PCs.
