Microsoft is once again participating in the Winter Olympics with Silverlight’s IIS Smooth Streaming technology, Bing, and more. Microsoft is behind the scenes of NBC’s online video coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics. NBColympics.com‘s video browser and player run on Silverlight,
The offering will be made on NBCOlympics.com on MSN.
For all 15 Winter sports, NBC Universal is offering exclusive digital event coverage that includes more than 400 hours of live competition and more than 1,000 hours of full-event replays, both online and on-demand.
An interactive online player powered by Silverlight present video in high-definition (HD).
Bing will also offer Visual Search galleries of Olympic athletes to help people get the latest news and information about their favorite competitors. Bing team also created "visual search" categories for athletes and Olympic events. Both galleries can be sorted by a number of criteria, and clicking each entry brings up a bunch of info.
During the Olympics, Bing will be rolling out daily Instant Answers on popular athletes, sporting events and medal counts, as well as updating their homepage image with Olympics images.
And Bing is the only search engine that can index the exclusive online Winter Games videos.
NBCOlympics.com is featuring enhanced Silverlight Enhanced HD photo galleries. Fans can zoom in and out of their favorite images and photo galleries through the “mosaic wall.”
There’s a new "Winter Games" application for the Silverlight-powered version of Bing Maps, with fairly real-time information on the Olympic menus and current medal counts for competing countries. The app also brings in news and Twitter chatter about the Games.
For journalists – and, really, anyone who wants to check it out – the United States Olympic Committee has a rich press Web site with Microsoft SharePoint under the hood.

Fans can start enjoying NBCOlympics.com on MSN today. In early February, the MSN homepage will begin extensive coverage of the Olympics with a dedicated module, which will offer the latest Olympic news and provide easy access to NBCOlympics.com on MSN.
