Robotics Developer Studio Updated

Robotics Developer Studio has been updated and offers DSS Log Analyzer, new simulation sensors, and tutorials. For a list of the new features, please see What’s New.

The Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 R2 (Microsoft RDS) is a Windows-based environment for academic, hobbyist, and commercial developers to easily create robotics applications across a wide variety of hardware. ISVs use RDS to write concurrent and distributed applications. RDS includes a lightweight REST-style, service-oriented runtime, a set of visual authoring and simulation tools, as well as tutorials and sample code to help get started.

VPL makes it easy to create robtoic applications.

RDS is designed:

  • As end-to-end development platform
  • For non-programmers to create robot applications using a visual programming environment
  • To simulate robotics applications in 3D physics-based virtual environments
  • To interacts with robots using Windows or Web-based interfaces
  • With a lightweight REST-style, services-oriented runtime
  • Makes asynchronous programming simple
  • To provide real-time monitoring of robotics sensors and response to motors and actuators

Microsoft RDS includes a lightweight asynchronous services-oriented runtime, a set of visual authoring and simulation tools, as well as templates, tutorials, and sample code to help you get started.

Microsoft RDS includes a programming model that makes it easy to develop asynchronous, state-driven applications. Microsoft RDS provides a common programming framework that can be applied to support a wide variety of robots, enabling code and skill transfer.

There is a brand new Robotics Web Site and an Introduction Video. You can download the Express Edition at no cost, or purchase the Standard Edition or download it from MSDN if you have a subscription. The Academic Edition can be obtained through MSDN Academic Alliance or DreamSpark.

RDS 2008 and CCR and DSS Toolkit Standard Editions available through MSDN and BizSpark.
