Virtual Server R2 SP1 Released

On Monday, we released Virtual Server R2 SP1 and its available here. Ben (aka Virtual PC Guy) has blogged about it here. Why is this noteworthy of our ISV blog? There are 2 key enhancements I want to highlight:

  1. I know of many ISVs that are running Virtual Server and have hardware equipped with AMD-V or Intel VT capable CPUs. There is now support for hardware-assisted virtualization technology (AMD-V and Intel VT) with R2 SP1 which will yield performance improvements.
  2. VHD Mount command-line tool and APIs: The VHDMount.exe command line tool will allow you to mount a .vhd (Virtual Hard Drive) file as a local file system without the virtual machine running.
