Line of Business Interoperability (LOBi) for Office SharePoint Server 2007

During his presentation at TechEd, Chris Caposella announced Microsoft’s Office Business Application Strategy.  As part of the overall strategy, Chris announced LOBi for Office SharePoint Server 2007. LOBi will deliver specific functionality for surfacing enterprise line of business data and processes in Office rich client applications with the ability to do transactional write-backs to the underlying business system. It also provides capabilities for taking enterprise data and processes off-line. LOBi builds on the same concepts as Duet, the joint Microsoft/ SAP application, but will be available to all ISV’s, SI’s and IT. LOBi is expected to be available as a Community Technology Preview by the end of 2006. LOBi is designed to complement Office SharePoint Server.
