SQL Server is also my product I work on, so I love to see community members championing SQL Server!

Let's get the interview started!

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? What are your specialty technologies?

Hello everybody I am Shashank Singh. I am from Mumbai (India). I am married to a beautiful wife. I am a very patriotic person and believes that best service one can do is a service to motherland. I currently work for Tata Consultancy services, which is a big Software service provider company.

What are your big projects right now?

As of now I would be moving to UK for a new project.Project is about  SQL server performance tuning and business Intelligence.I am going their as a consultant. I have worked on SSIS before but their I would get more involved in SSIS (one of the SQL Server features that I love the most). I have worked extensively on SQL Server memory and locking. Both of these topics fascinate me the most. The more I try to go deep the more it eludes me.

What is TechNet Wiki for? Who is it for?

Well I prepared  a bit to give answer to this question. Wiki is Where I can Keep my Insights. I love the wiki very much as this a best source of pure and advanced knowledge about SQL server and its applications.
TechNet Wiki is for beginners as well as experts. You can find all kind of articles here. Sometimes the more the simple it is the more classic it is.

What do you do with TechNet Wiki, and how does that fit into the rest of your job?

Quality of knowledge is such that the more you share the more you learn. This is how I see TechNet Wiki. Things that I learn from the forums or from my day-to-day activities, I share it in turn. The things that I learn from Wiki and Forums I try to implement in my Environment. So TechNet Wiki is kind of attached to my Job.

What is it about TechNet Wiki that interests you?

The Knowledge and the discussion. Your answers /articles are reviewed  by some of the industry experts and yes I have received good feedback from the judges. This makes me feel that I stand somewhere in the community and yes I can also contribute to this community as I am valued here.

On what articles have you collaborated with other community members on #TNWiki? What was that experience like?

Not got chance to collaborate actually. But their feedback was pretty real and awesome.

On what Wiki articles do you spend most of your time?

Currently I am working on SQL Server memory and locking behavior. I will try to come up with an article related to SQL Server memory. I spent lot of time on my article What does Log truncations counter signify.

What are your favorite Wiki articles you’ve contributed?

The 2 below are my favorite:

What does log truncation counter signify

Understanding lock escalation

What are your top 5 favorite Wiki articles?

Almost every article teaches you a lot. But I love articles By Uwe Ricken.

What could we do differently on TechNet Wiki?

Like there is PASS summit. Can we have a TechNet Wiki summit where we can call different authors and discuss SQL Server? This will only include non Microsoft guys. (Just a thought.)

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

All those who post in Wiki are awesome and wonderful. I try to judge an article not by who has posted it but by how much knowledge it provided. For me, each and every article is something to learn for. Some one who has impressed me on TechNet Wiki is Uwe Ricken. I seriously love his answers. I guess I can learn lot about indexes and SQL Server internals from him.

From the Forums I must mention Olaf, Saeid, Uri, Naomi, Ed, Sathya, Dan, Tom, and Sean; I learned a lot from their posts and answers.  I must also thank to all the persons who posted question on forum ,their questions challenged my capability and forced me to extra distance to find the answer.

What does success look like for TechNet Wiki?

Its already successful.

Thank you to Shanky for all your contributions to the community!

Here is my favorite quote from the interview: "Wiki is Where I can Keep my Insights."
