Celebrate World Book Day with a live author visit via Skype!

We all know the importance of literacy skills, but how can you really bring this to life for students? Why not invite an author, illustrator, or writer live into your classroom via Skype and let the magic begin?

Join the fun and celebrate the World Book Day with live connections through the Microsoft Educator Community of which Skype in the Classroom is a part of. There are over 200 authors waiting to hear from you! All Skype activities are FREE and an opportunity to break down the walls of your classrooms and inspire the next generation, no matter where you are in the world. There are also special collections of children’s book authors who offer Skype lessons from literacy partners such as Andersen Press UKScholastic, Penguin Books, Candlewick, Arbordale, and more. Many authors are available year-round.

How can I join in?

Simply visit Skype in the Classroom’s literacy page and on there you’ll see a range of different activities- simply click through to read more and if the activity if right for your students, you can request a session with the host- some share their calendars on the site and others will follow up via email to arrange the exact date and time.

Connecting with authors is just one of the many experiences that help broaden students’ minds and imaginations- make sure you check out our  calendar of events which shows Skype in the Classroom’s annual major events and adventures!

Don’t forget to share the fun!

Share your literacy adventures with us on Twitter via @SkypeClassroom and @MicrosoftEdUK using hashtags #skype2read and #WorldBookDayUK.
