Highbury College opens New Horizons Centre to offer teacher training in the South East


It’s not only the students that need teaching. As technology evolves so does teaching, and we must strive to ensure that those who are entrusted to shape and mould the minds of the next generation are doing so with the necessary skills.

As part of Microsoft’s commitment to education, we offer a variety of teacher training qualifications and courses, which can be undertaken through a number of our partners.

One such partner is New Horizons, who deliver training to schools and teachers who want to further the impact they can have in the classroom by gaining experience and knowledge from fully qualified trainers.

Teachers, schools and universities in the south east coastal region of the UK looking to further their own personal development or that of their staff will now be able to take advantage of the New Horizons centre, recently opened in Portsmouth. New Horizons Southcoast is owned by Highbury College Portsmouth, an Ofsted Grade 1 College with an international reputation for high quality teacher and technical training. Paul Rolfe, Managing Director and also a Governor of a local Primary School said:

Instructor-led training is the foundation of New Horizons’ Integrated Learning Approach and gives the energy and feedback of an in-person classroom setting. This can be delivered in the centre or at the customer’s site. With the opening of New Horizons South Coast in Portsmouth, these training courses now reach from Bournemouth to Brighton, as far north as Guildford, and even stretch over the Solent to include the Isle of Wight.

As any teacher will tell you, no class full of students is ever quite the same as another. New Horizons take this into consideration when delivering any course, and builds training solutions that meet a wide range of demands.

For those teachers that can’t afford the time out of school, New Horizons has two further learning modes. Online LIVE® which provides a rich, engaging virtual classroom environment that allows the user to easily interact with the instructors and fellow students. Mentored Learning® is another method of delivery which combines focused learning, on a one-on-one mentoring basis. This flexible approach increases the user’s capabilities while maintaining the productivity within the customer’s organisation. Online ANYTIME® is a web-hosted self-paced training solution, often known as e-learning. This method uses the same core course content as our world-renowned instructor-led training. Taster courses are available to schools to trail training.

For educational institutions looking to add to their IT Support, New Horizons are also excited to announce their new Microsoft IT Apprenticeship programme. This apprenticeship uses industry-recognised Microsoft curriculum to deliver the apprenticeship. This can later be converted to a MCSA or MCSE with a few additional units.

New Horizons are also able to offer full Office 365 training, from the technical admin to end user training on the applications. Office can be made available to all students, staff and faculty at no cost, and each individual can install Office on up to 5 PCs/Macs, as well as up to 5 mobile devices or tablets.
