One of my favourite apps for Windows 8 is the travel app, powered by Bing, which allows you virtually travel the world and explore over 2000 destinations through photos and panoramas.
A great way to learn about culture, food, people and natural wonders from across the world, this app would complement almost any subject, from history to religion, and would undoubtedly engage students in geography.
Each day brings a new ‘home’ image to the app, in addition to featured destinations.
If the images aren’t enough to impress, each one comes with a description of the destination, maps, the current exchange rate and weather, and even the ability to find flights and hotels. each destination could act as a prompt of questions to students about currency, geographical positioning, landmarks and the destination’s history.
Once you’ve learned about a destination’s history, the app also shows you the current travel news from around the world, allowing you to keep students up to date with current affairs.
Show your students the world through technology!
