Mix for Teachers – Flipping the Classroom

Last week we posted about the great educator resources available at Office Mix for Teachers, which looks at the way this free PowerPoint add-on can enhance the learning experience by bringing presentations to life with added media such as video and audio recordings.

Here's an example of how Office Mix can be used within education, this time by students:

Office Mix for Teachers contains a number of tutorials and how-to guides that will help you get the most out of Mix, whether you intend of using it within the classroom or as part of your students' personal studies and revision. Today, we're going to look at how you can flip your classroom using Office Mix.

The notion of 'Flipped Learning' is to turn the conventional teaching methodology - covering concepts and material in the classroom, with the students working on assignments in their own time - on its head, and instead use the time when the students are assembled together as an opportunity for collaborative working and discussions, with the added benefit of having the teacher on hand to offer assistance and guidance as the students work.

While Office Mix is suitable for all kinds of content and all forms of learning, it fits the flipped classroom particularly well for these reasons:

  • Educators can take advantage of the full power of PowerPoint.
  • All the features of a compelling presentation are preserved when the presentation is published as a mix.
  • Mixes play on any platform and device that can open a browser.
  • Educators can deliver their lessons as mixes, and students can deliver their homework as mixes

On Mix for Teachers you'll find a section dedicated to Flipped Learning, which compares a number of scenarios and looks at the way in which Office Mix can enhance the learning practices.
