The Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship is a global competition that tests students’ skills on Microsoft Office application.
In 2015 two students will win the trip of a lifetime to represent the UK & Ireland at the final round of the Championship in Dallas, Texas from August 9th to 12th. Last year’s Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship attracted more than 400,000 unique candidates from 130 countries who competed to demonstrate their mastery of Microsoft Office products. 123 student finalists participated in the final round of competition.
The UK has a great recent history in the MOS World Championship with 2 World Champions in 3 years. In 2012 Kieran Youngman was crowned World Champion for MOS Word, while in San Diego in 2011,
Rebecca Rickwood was named World Champion for MOS Excel. Most recently in 2014, Certiport has named Hannah Wilson from Sawtry Community College, Cambridgeshire as the Third Place Winner for Microsoft Word 2007 at the 2014 Microsoft Office World Championship.

MOS World Championship Prizes
In June 2015, Prodigy Learning will announce the two UK & Ireland Champions who will each win the trip of a lifetime to Dallas, Texas and the chance to compete for the World Championship (with a top
prize $5,000 USD)!
- To participate*, students must first take and pass a qualifying Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exam in Word or Excel (2010 or 2013) during one of the two Qualifying Rounds to be eligible for invitation to the UK & Ireland Regional Final in June 2015.
First Qualifying Round (October 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014)
- 10 students from around the UK & Ireland will be chosen using the “top-score method” (highest exam score and lowest exam-taking time) in Word and Excel to qualify for the Regional Final in
Second Qualifying Round (January 1, 2015 – May 15, 2015)
- 10 students from around the UK & Irelandwill be chosen using the “top-score method” (highest exam score andlowest exam-taking time) in Word and Excel to qualify for the Regional Final in June 2015.
Regional Final (June 2015)
- The 20 finalists selected from the two Qualifying Rounds will be invited to take part in the UK Finals at an event hosted by Microsoft in June 2015. All finalists will sit a further MOS exam in their qualifying category and the two overall UK & Ireland Champions will be determined based on these results.
