Smarter Government – Microsoft on Government Worldwide Blog
There is a new blog in the Microsoft portfolio of Public Sector blogs that I’d like to bring to your attention. It is a worldwide blog called Microsoft on Government that contains fascinating examples from across the globe on how public sector organisations are using ICT to innovate and improve the cost-efficient delivery of public services.
For example you can discover:
- How the City of Utrecht is using Microsoft technology in a solution developed by Logica to manage remotely the city’s lighting, sewage systems, roads, and much more, all from a centralised location. By using innovative technology, the City of Utrecht expects to achieve cost savings of up to 20 percent, and energy cost savings of up to 40 percent.
- How Microsoft’s energy-smart buildings pilot programme on our Redmond campus has been established with an upfront investment of less than 10 percent of an organisation’s annual energy expenditure, with an estimated payback period of less than 18 months.
- How Love Clean London is using a smartphone and web app. to enable local authorities to be more responsive at a lower cost to constituents environmental complaints. Using the innovative solution the London Borough of Lewisham saw complaints about graffiti fall by 30 percent and London boroughs saw an 87 percent reduction in time spent processing issues reported through the system. In terms of cost savings, a report processed with the new system costs Lewisham £1.50 in comparison to a web-based report costing £4.10 and a report by phone costing £5.10
