Lies, damned lies and (interesting) Government statistics

Excuse my paraphrase of the Benjamin Disraeli assertion that there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics.

In fact, I want to use today’s blog entry to point you towards some of the very useful information that the Office for National Statistics (ONS) tracks.  ONS is now the independent public sector authority for data on the performance of Government and devolved administrations.  It covers weighty matters such as the state of the economy, employment, earnings, public sector deficit and much more.

Much more interesting from a personal perspective is the level of information that the ONS can provide about your neighbourhood.  Try this link and enter your postcode to discover fascinating information about your neighbourhood – From average life expectancy, the rate of teenage pregnancy and a detailed demographic profile of the population of your neighbourhood, it is all here.
