Enjoy a Merry 'Green' Christmas

The Microsoft UK Government blog is now going on a short break until January 3, 2008. All contributors to this blog wish you a Merry Christms and a Happy New Year.

Before we 'sign off' for the year, I thought we would return to one of the topics we have featured regularly in the blog this year. So here are a few simple facts and food for thought that may help you to enjoy a merry, green Christmas:

£3.1M - the energy cost of the 2 million PCs left switched on between Christmas and New Year
£115M - the energy cost of the 1.7 million PCs habitually left switched on overnight and at weekends
£1B - the annual cost of inefficient business printing by UK Government and industry
£16.7B - the annual cost of business printing across the UK is greater than the GDP of Cuba

Also, Gartner forecasts that by 2010 environment-related issues will be among the top five IT management concerns for more than 50 per cent of state and local government organisations.
