Identity Management - now for some good news

Recent high profile news about identity theft and the problems of keeping identity information secure has mostly been bad. The media coverage on the HMRC lost data discs story has almost certainly shaken public confidence in the security of their personal information online.

Now for some good news: Government Gateway is working with vendors such as Microsoft and Sun to develop secure information cards that enable direct and secure interaction between citizens and central government services.

There is an excellent video case study on the Cabinet Office's work in helping local authorities such as Derby to develop information cards for secure identity management and citizen access to sensitive personal information, which you can view online here.
