Why is Silverlight good for government organisations?

According to Microsoft’s website, Silverlight is;

“A cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of Microsoft .NET–based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web”

Although the definition may sound impressive, it’s also rather obscure, perhaps leading you to ask the question: “Why is Silverlight good for government organisations?” Put simply, Silverlight allows you to create smart web applications very easily. With Microsoft Silverlight you have a tool that allows you to play and edit video, and also create really high-definition content and applications for a variety of different purposes. For example, the software can be used to create fully interactive websites along with smart desktop gadgets (see link for more information on gadgets). Perhaps Silverlight’s best feature is its ability to manipulate video content in mere seconds - you can upload videos onto your PC or laptop and join them together very easily - like playing with blocks. Silverlight will then divide the different videos into “chapters,” and with a simple click of a button you can see your final video in action and add it to your website instantly! Currently Microsoft Silverlight is in a fairly early test stage. However more and more websites have taken the technology on board to test the features of the new software.
