Exeter University’s ‘Siymb’ to represent the UK at Imagine Cup World Finals in July

At the end of March we hosted the UK Finals of the Imagine Cup at our London HQ in Victoria, where a select panel of judges helped us find our three national winners from the Gaming, Innovation and World Citizenship categories, along with launching two new partner awards in Social Media Creativity and Cloud Innovation. The Imagine Cup team have now concluded their 2015 World Semi-Finals round, which this year included 150 teams from 64 countries.

Imagine Cup 2015

We are pleased to share with you the news that Team Siymb from Exeter University will be representing the UK in the Innovation category at the 2015 World Wide Imagine Cup Finals in Seattle, on the 31st of July, and in doing so will be competing for the chance to win $50,000 in funding & a 1-1 session with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Team Siymb are made up of Konstantin Wuenscher, Konstantin Delov and Jakob Zeitler, a mixture of 1st & 2nd year Exeter University Students who are looking towards bringing networking at conferences and exhibitions to the 21st century.

The idea uses an inexpensive wearable to transform the way people interact with each other and ultimately share their contact details during conferences and exhibitions. Instead of collecting stacks of business cards or having to remember to track someone down online, with a simple handshake participants will now be able to exchange details about each other. All the information you need will be available through Simyb’s integrated online system, built on Microsoft Azure.

The team have already had a TV debut to an audience of over 2,000 viewers when they appeared on day 1 of the Azure Tech Days Special. Having won the Cloud Innovation Award at the Imagine Make It Happen event back in March, the team shared their story with Andrew Fryer on how they are connecting data with their smart bracelet through the cloud and using Azure to solve some of the business challenges they faced whilst developing their Imagine Cup project. This video will be appearing on our Channel9 developer community site in due course.

But for now, we’re wishing Siymb the best of luck for the World Wide Imagine Cup finals at the end on July, and hope that they can bring the trophy home to the UK in 2015!
