University IT Camps!

Microsoft's technical experts are running a hands-on training session to help Universities extend the datacentre using Microsoft Azure! Spaces are filling up, secure your spot today.

Some of you reading this may have had an invitation to something called the University IT Camp sitting in your inbox and may be wondering what this event actually is. I have written this quick blog to explain a little bit more about what this is, and why it might be of interest to you.

I’m Andrew Fryer and I’ll be your host on the day to guide you through how you can scale on-demand services, rapidly respond to your students and faculty, immediately address short term, short notice requests for research IT resources and maintain total control over your data at all times, through a Hybrid Cloud model infrastructure.

IT Camps are not your typical Microsoft event, in fact IT Camps are quite the opposite. IT Camps are different in that they are hands on and give you access to the technology and the expertise to explain and answer your
questions.  We sit you round in tables and encourage discussion between the audience as well with the presenters and within the broad theme of the day you agree the agenda. That sort of thing is still needed and that will be the format at Future Decoded (10-12th November at the Excel Centre in London).

IT Camps come in different flavours and for the event in London on 17th

October we are going to look at the hybrid cloud – keeping some of what you have and extending this into Microsoft Azure in the same way that some of you are making use of Office 365 but possibly keeping some Exchange server in house say for permanent staff.

We do have other venues and we’ll also be running camps based around Enterprise Mobility – the business of managing all of the devices, users and applications that connect to your resources and your also welcome to come to those if that is of interest.  However for the 17th October, we are restricting this just to colleges and universities as although you might be in competition for students grants etc, the IT challenges you face are similar and we think it would be good to air those and learn from each other as well as from us.

So hopefully we’ll see you there all you need is a device or two capable of accessing an html5 website and an open mind.

If you cannot make it on the 17th October, please feel free to register for another date or location. Below are other camps scheduled in over the next few months.

London 17 October - An IT Camp for Universities: Extend your Data Centre with Microsoft Azure

Birmingham 21 October - Implementing a Mobile-First World with Microsoft Enterprise Device Infrastructure
