Although not a substitute for full master data management capabilities, the ability to perform rules-base duplicate record detection througout CRM 4.0 is a welcome addition to the array of new data management capabilities built into the product.
The key facts about duplicate record detection are as follows:
- Detection is available for most entities, not just contacts, accounts or leads.
- You can create your own detection rules
- Each entity will support up to 5 rules, any more and the performace of the system could start to degrade.
- Rules are evaluated during data entry, bulk import and during the Outlook “Go Online” process.
This is an example of simple change which can yield dramatic improvements to the reliability of your customer data.
