The Malmo Collaborative AI Challenge
We are pleased to announce The Malmo Collaborative AI Challenge – a challenge aimed to foster research towards AI agents that learn to collaborate with others, including people.
The Challenge uses Project Malmo, an AI experimentation platform built on top of Minecraft. It takes the form of a collaborative mini-game – the Malmo Pig Chase. The task and sample code are freely available on GitHub.
Our goal with this Challenge is to encourage teams of students to pursue research in Collaborative AI. Challenge participants are invited to develop and train collaborative AI solutions that learn to achieve high scores across a range of collaborators.
Besides the joy of problem-solving, Microsoft is offering three prizes each in the following two categories (Challenge participants can sign up for either or both prizes, subject to Challenge rules):
- Microsoft Research AI Summer School Placement Prize
Three winning teams will be awarded placements at the AI Summer School at Microsoft Research Cambridge, UK (week of 3rd July 2017). - Microsoft Azure for Research Grant Prize
Three winning teams will be awarded Microsoft Azure for Research grants with a maximum value of $20,000 USD.
Are you interested in participating? Please check the details including the Challenge Rules here. Once you’ve assembled a team of up to three members, please sign up here.
Note, if you decide to use Microsoft Azure for developing and training your agent, you can sign up for a Microsoft Azure Pass (market value $1,500 USD) that we will offer to the first 150 entries free of charge (subject to requirements outlined in the Challenge Rules). Please indicate this during registration.
We look forward to your participation. It’ll be fun!
