The Horror of it – or not

Like many people I spend a lot of time editing, and viewing Word documents. Recently, I switched to Office 2007 (Tech Refresh) and so far have been pretty happy with the results. Except for this morning – that is. You know the situation. I had spent two hours editing a document that was due three hours earlier.  In celebrating the completion of the editing frenzy, I closed the document and went to get a cup of coffee. Content with my hot coffee, I clicked on the document and was greeted with the following.

Immediately I started sweating a bit. I could feel my heart racing. I could feel the day not going well. I then realized that I had read about some new repair functionality for these unfortunate times. Finally after calming down a bit, reading the help screen and finally selecting the “Show Help” button. This led me to successfully repair the document using the following steps. This of course led to a much better day!

1.       Select the Office button and Open

2.       Within the open dialog select the dialog (single click) to highlight the document

3.       Select the open button and select Open and Repair
