Talk SummaryWith the double-play launch of Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005, there’s a ton of new database and data access technology features to learn, appreciate and master. The new Windows Forms and ASP.NET data binding infrastructures are each powerful, unique and non-trivial. Enhancements to typed DataSets up the ante even further. SQL Server’s new .NET CLR programmability adds impressive new capabilities as well as lots of new application design decisions. What’s your plan for learning so much new technology and understanding when to use which parts?

In this talk we’ll take a holistic look these technologies. We’ll start by exploring SQL Server CLR programming and debugging. We’ll then look at how to surface both T-SQL and SQL CLR entities within typed DataSets, then how to use those DataSets with Windows Forms and ASP.NET bound controls. We’ll extend this even further by using ADO.NET 2.0 in code to take advantage of new SQL Server Query Notifications and Multiple Active Result Sets. And of course, we’ll cover usage of both the new SQL Server Management Studio and Visual Studio’s own Server Explorer for database management.

Speaker BioAndrew J. Brust is Chief, New Technology at Citigate Hudson, Inc., a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner specializing in Business Intelligence and custom database applications built with .NET, SQL Server, and other Microsoft technologies. Prior to joining Citigate Hudson, Andrew was the President of Progressive Systems Consulting, which he founded in 1994 and merged with Citigate Hudson in 2004.

Andrew is Microsoft's Regional Director for New York and New Jersey, a contributing editor to Visual Studio Magazine, a regular speaker and Conference Chair at VSLive and a featured speaker at other conferences throughout the U.S. and internationally. Andrew has over 15 years of experience programming and consulting in the Financial, Public, Small Business, and Not-For-Profit sectors. Mr. Brust is a Vice-Chairman of the New York Software Industry Association (NYSIA) Board.
